Amazing Food in Venice: Da Mamo Trattoria and Pizzeria

The Rialto Bridge in Venice is a well known and popular landmark in Venice.  It’s a location that is always bustling with tourists and Venetians alike.  The adjacent streets are also packed with shops and stores that attract even more people.  Amidst this hustle and bustle, down a narrow Ventian side street, you’ll find the cozy restaurant, Da Mamo Trattoria Pizzeria.  It’s location is right in the heart of Venice but as soon as you step inside, it seems as if you’re a world away.

I arrived for lunch to, my surprise, a packed restaurant.  I had a reservation, so I was greeted and seated as soon as I walked in.  The restaurant is a trattoria, and as such, exudes the ambiance of a classic Venetian trattoria.  The are wooden tables and chairs, paper napkins, all within a small, cozy setting.

The menu offers a wide variety of choices.  They offer Italian style 4 course meals, that include a starter, first course, main course, and dessert.  Their first course consists of classic Venetian and Italian cuisine, including Tagliolini with Cuttlefish and Linguine with Peoci and Caparossoi, both Venetian dishes.  You’ll also find a wide selection of pastas including Raviolini with Artichokes, Short Pasta with Basil Pesto alla Genovese and Garlic Oil and Hot Pepper Spaghetti.

I gave the gnocchi di scampi all “Busara” a try.  This is potato dumplings with prawns, onions served in tomato sauce and basil.  Absolutely delicious!  I also went for the Spaghetti alla “Carbonara”.  A classic Italian plate, this dish is served with carbonara style spaghetti with egg yolk, bacon and black pepper.  Again, a very tasty option

If the first courses aren’t enough, you’ll find the main courses to be just as filling.  Choose from chicken breast with lemon flavor or grilled seabass, each flavorful in their own right.  There is also a beef fillet with Amarone sauce that I had my eye on but was already too stuffed to try.

I decided to give the Gran Fritto de Pesce & Verde a try.  This is a dish of mixed fried scampi, shrimp and vegetables with polenta.  Another tasty selection that will delight your taste buds and leave you stuffed.

What’s a pizzeria without pizza?  Da Mamo also offers about 30 different types of pizza, with a variety of ingredients that will surely suit whatever you have a taste for.  They offer Zodiac pizzas, which are a different pizza for each zodiac sign.  My sign, the Libra, was a Bilancia pizza.  This was made of tomato, mozzarella, sweet peppers, sausage, and hot salami.  You can’t imagine the number of combinations and ingredients they offer.  You will also find traditional pizzas and white pizzas or you can opt to create your own.  Follow that up with tiramisu or gelato and you will certainly leave satisfied.

The service was very attentive and the waiters and owners themselves added to the experience as they chatted with the guests.  You’re sure to meet people from all over the world when you dine here.

Da Mamo’s is a hidden gem in the heart of Venice, offering you a ton of food options.  You would be doing yourself a disservice if you made it all the way to Venice and didn’t stop by.
