The Colombian countryside offers stunning views of mountains, valley’s, rivers and much much more. What better way to explore the outdoors than on an ATV.! I decided to get in contact with Medellin Adventure Trails to make this happen.
They’re located about an hour outside of Medellin in the city of Guarne. Booking with them was simple and straightforward. I reached out, picked a date and time, and we were all set. If you need it, they will also coordinate transportation to and from Medellin to Guarne for about $50, which we did.
On the day of our tour, our driver picked us up and whisked us away to the Medellin Adventure Trails location in Guarne. We were greeted upon our arrival, completed some paper work and given our equipment. We were outfitted with safety gear, helmets, and masks, and then off we went to our ATVs.
Our guide then went over safety procedures and instructions for driving for ATVs. I should also note that there are English speaking employees there to assist as well in case you don’t speak Spanish. After that, there’s a small practice area to practice driving and once that’s done, off you go!
We rode through the country side, taking in absolutely gorgeous scenery of mountains and valleys. We rode up mountain roads, down steep inclines and through shallow rivers. You’ll definitely get muddy on this tour so wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty! The scenery, however, was truly breath taking scenery!
About an hour into the ride we stopped at a fish sanctuary for lunch. The location seemed like an oasis in the middle of the jungle. There was a coy fish pond there that made me feel like I was back in Asia. If that wasn’t cool enough, there was also a large pond where local Colombian men were fishing for their dinner.
For lunch we decided on fish and were allowed to select our fish of choice. I of course chose the largest fish they had. It was served with rice, plantains, salad, beans and a drink. To say I was stuffed afterwards was an understatement.
After lunch, the tour then continued for a few more hours through more shallow rivers, gravel roads, steep hills and lush countryside. We eventually made it back to the Medellin Adventure Trails headquarters after an awesome ride.
