The very talented, Lyfe Jennings took a quick break last night in between songs to count down the last few seconds of 2019 with the crowd. Free glasses of champagne were passed out to everyone so we could all toast to the new year together. What a great way to bring in the New Year!
I decided to bring in 2020 at City Winery DC which was the best decision. One, because City Winery has become one of my favorite music venues. It’s not too big where you could get lost in the crowd but it’s also not too small, “intimate” is the best word to describe it. And two, I got to see Lyfe Jennings perform for the 1st time and he left the ladies in the crowd screaming for more.
Lyfe Jennings is an R&B and soul singer-songwriter and record producer. He spent some time in prison where a lot of his music inspired from. The New York Times referred to him as a “socially minded R&B singer”. He has this unique gritty falsetto about his voice that gives his songs life, no pun intended. 
Though he did not bless us with his other talents that evening, I did discover later that he also plays the guitar, bass, and piano.
“Lyfe” is such a perfect name for him because a lot of the popular songs he performed that evening from his catalog are about his life and real-life issues. Songs like: Never Never Land -2008, Let’s Stay Together – 2006, Hypothetically – 2004 and one of his fan favorites Must Be Nice – 2004. While he performed each song every single person in the crowd was singing along with him. His music can be played with many different moods, which is a great thing because it will continue to be played for years to come and eventually it will be a part of the “oldies but goodies” conversation.
