Keur Papaye is a true haven of peace nestled on a paradise island between sea and lagoon in the heart of the Sine Saloum National Park. This was a euphoric experience that I had no idea I would have experienced in Senegal but I’m totally glad I did. If you really want to get away, disconnect and relax then Keur Papaye is the place you need to be.
This beautiful property really took me by surprise. It is located on a private island called Dionewar, super stunning and secluded. If you need a quiet romantic getaway, this is your place! You can only access it by boat and the boat ride there is serene. Such a smooth ride with breathtaking views. It is located approximately 1.5 hours from Saly, 1.5 hours from the new Blaise Diagne airport and 2.5 hours from Dakar. The Blaise Diagne airport transfer to Keur Papaye is about 98,500 CFA francs per person, i.e. $150, but you can work out better deals with local taxi drivers.
Keur Papaye is equipped with a boat that can accommodate 12 people in a comfortable cabin sheltered from waves and wind to ensure your transfer in the best conditions. Please note that the cost of the transfer is included in the rates. Once the boat pulled up to the dock, we were greeted by the amazing staff to help us off the boat and grab our bags to take to our rooms.
From the dock, there is a long walkway that leads to the property that is surrounded by refreshing nature, bright flowers and tall palm trees. Keur Papaye offers a service combining authenticity, quality, and conviviality while respecting the environment and preserving the region by using solar energy.

A huge highlight at the property is a big beautiful infinity pool located in the middle of the property. That is definitely where I spent a lot of my time, swinging and lounging. They also have a magnificent beach with deckchairs for sunbathing. Ths island is a VIP invitation to relaxation and a huge change of scenery from Saly.
Dining
Breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert are included in your stay. A full bar is available to provide refreshments around the pool or on the terrace. All meals are made by a local chef so you get some of the best Senegalese food, beautifully platted and tastes like perfection. There is a covered and ventilated restaurant on the island that you can eat at or meals can also be served by the pool so you eat while you lounge.
Activities & Leisure
Keur Papaye has a list of excursions and fun daytime activities they can organize for you on the island and off, by pirogue. This allows you to discover the region and its different cultures. The hotel is also a popular fishing center, which is one of the activities I got to do. I caught a fish, they cleaned it and cooked it over a fire right in front of me for lunch. Super delicious! Another activity that I got to experience is a horse and wagon ride around the island which allowed me to meet the local population, admire the stunning landscapes and soak in the rich culture.
Before you ask… Yes! The wi-fi connection is strong on the island but why waste your time being on your electronic devices all day when you’re on a stunning private island? I sure didn’t! I really enjoyed my time of zen in this beautiful peaceful paradise.
Thank you again to the amazing team at Keur Papaye, you made my stay there euphoric.
