Three Words… Korean Fusion Tacos!

All it took to convince me was just three words, and I was sold on MOGO in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The best three words I’ve ever heard. Korean Fusion Tacos! Mogo is a counter-serve eatery that brings traditional Korean flavors to the masses one taco at a time.

MOGO is not a taco spot; they also serve burritos, bowls and a few other goodies. You can get toco’s from many different places, but the simple yet diverse menu blends, high-quality meats, fish and tofu that are always seasoned to perfection with their special homemade Korean marinade makes this restaurant stand out.

They have two and a half locations in Asbury Park, the other two being a very cute taco shack at the beach and a food truck. The location we had the pleasure of eating at is located at 632 Cookman Ave. As soon as we arrived we did not waste any time, we jumped right it. To start us off they brought out two of there signature drinks: Watermelon Lime & Fuji Hibiscus. I’m not a big fan of anything watermelon but both drinks were actually very tasty, my favorite being the Fuji Hibiscus of course.

Next, they brought us out the Korean Fried Chicken Wings, all three different flavors: Soy Ginger, Spicy and Buffalo Kimchi. They are breaded with potato starch, cooked twice and tossed in the sauce afterward. I have never seen wings cooked this way but it works, each flavor was finger licking good.

Now, you can’t go to a taco place and not get the tacos so next; they brought out a few tacos for us.

Fish: Lightly floured cod with pickled onion salad topped with spicy mayo

Beef: Korean BBQ marinated rib-eye with kimchi pico de gallo & chopped romaine

Shrimp: Tangy sweet and sour chilled shrimp with panko topped cucumber salad

Tofu: Spicy-soy glazed fried tofu with soy-sesame slaw

A little bit of everything for every type of foodie and each taco was equally amazing! Now if you are not a big taco person which I think is rare, especially after you have these tacos, they do have other very delicious items on the menu that we got the chance to try.

The Boki Cheesesteak, a spicy marinated rib-eye with sauteed peppers & onions, and cotija cheese with a side of potato salad.

Bibimbap Burger, 100% CAB ground chuck with Korean pickled vegetables, spicy mayo, homemade Asian pear hot sauce, and a sunny side up egg with a side of potato salad.

Both dishes are of course heavy meat dishes so they are for the meat lovers and I promise your taste buds will be satisfied. This was not just your typical burger and cheesesteak, both are seasoned very well with a unique twist added to each dish.

We tried a lot of different things and we thought we didn’t have any more room left until they brought out dessert. This beautiful Korean Doughnut, a fried pastry filled with Cinnamon-sugar, sesame, and sprinkled with powdered sugar. It was served very warm with a cold scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, the perfect combination.

Don’t waste any time! Every week is #tacotueday so make sure you go and celebrate at MOGO!
