River & Post: Restaurant And Rooftop Lounge

You would be crazy to visit Jacksonville, Florida and not dine at one of the most highly rated restaurant/rooftop lounge, River & Post! Located, at the corner of Riverside Avenue & Post Street, this exciting new restaurant concept with a rooftop lounge overlooking downtown Jacksonville offers a view of the gorgeous St. Johns River. The atmosphere is like no other, a culinary experience to die for! So, let’s jump right into it!

For our First Course… Our wonderful server started us off with a few of their best salads, located under the “Beginnings” section on the menu. The Local Beets and Burrata Cheese Salad which consisted of delicious beets, candied almonds topped with burrata cheese which is a type of fresh mozzarella and a cherry banyuls vinaigrette made in-house. This salads mixture of sweet and savory was perfect.
The Iceberg Wedge consisted of large pieces of iceberg lettuce, Nueske bacon lardons, heirloom tomatoes and gorgonzola. This salad was really different from any salad I have ever had, but I really enjoyed it.
Second Course… Blue Crab Beignets, very well know down in the Bahamas, tasted like a mix between crab cakes and hush puppies. What was exciting about these puffs was the slite spicy aftertaste after each bite.
Broiled Market Oysters, despana chorizo, horseradish, manchego cheese and tomato confit. I have never been a fan of oysters, but this dish won me over. The ingredients came together so well, it tasted like an authentic Italian dish, like an Eggplant Parmesan.  Before the server brought out the final course, he had the bartender make us four of their best cocktails. Each cocktail was unique, chic and very tasty.

  • Fleck- Absolute vodka, strawberry syrup, lime, Aperol & ginger beer
  • Manifest Destiny- Manifest Vodka, Giffard peach, champagne, lemon & lavender simple syrup.
  • Summit – Tito vodka, St. Germain elderflower, blueberry syrup, lemon & soda with blueberry Meyer lemon shrub
  • Bulleit Proof – Bulleit rye, Dolin sweet vermouth, cognac, Benedictine, Angostura & orange bitters served in a smoked glass with a honey flamed orange slice.

Final Course… Seared Sea Scallops, four pieces of fresh never frozen scallops placed on to of lemon arugula risotto made with zinfandel and sweet corn sprouts. Great bitter taste with each bite, like a fine sharp cheddar.
Mayport Shrimp and grits, six pieces of jumbo shrimp over smoked gouda grits and lobster fumet. Sprinkled on top as a beautiful garnish was green, yellow and red peppers.
One word for both of these dishes and the whole dining experience, WOW! I want to say a huge thank you to management and the entire team at River & Post. They set up one of the best tastings my team has ever experienced. After dinner, they took us up to the beautiful rooftop lounge so we could grab a few drinks, enjoy the nightlife and the fantastic view.
Again, you CAN NOT visit Jacksonville and dine at this highly rated restaurant.
