St Lucia is a beautiful Island that boasts clear waters, beautiful beaches and coastlines, and stunning landscapes. They also have a lush rainforests on the Island as well, something that you don’t often find in Caribbean Islands. The rainforest annually receive over 69 inches of rain, which allows it to maintain its warm and lush appearance, but it’s not the typical jungle that you may have become accustomed to with the thick jungle canopy. The have tropical birds, flora and fuana, waterfalls and more.
There are many ways to enjoy this tropical treasure when you’re on the island. You can hike through it, view it from above in via a tram or, if you’re like me, add a bit of thrill and zip line from platform to platform.
Who We Chose To Work With
After a bit of research on zip lining in St. Lucia, I decided the best way to experience this was with Rain Forest Adventure. They offer adventures and excursions in not only St. Lucia, but also St. Marteen, Costa Rica, Panama, and Jamaica. For St. Lucia, you have the option of choosing any one of their three excursions. The first is The Rainforest Arial Tram which transports guests away from the lowlands to an ecological park located in the heights of the St. Lucia forest reserve. You can take in the rainforest from above, viewing all that it has to offer. They also offer the Adrenaline Canopy Tour, which is their zip line excursion or you can book the Ultimate Three, which is a combination of the Zip Line, Rainforest Arial Tram, and a Nature Trails Tour, which is a walk through the rainforest.
I love a hassle free experience and booking with them was incredibly easy. Simply book through the website by choosing the tour you want and the number of people going. Don’t forget to add “transport” if you need them to pick you up and drop you off from your hotel, cruise ship, or the airport. And that’s it! Nice and easy.
Zip Lining
On the day of the zip lining experience, the transportation picked us up at 9am from our hotel and whisked us away to Rain Forest Adventures HQ. The small bus was filled with other visitors who were all looking to share in the fun. We arrived at the entrance where you check in and purchase a locker if you have valuables that you want to lock up. This costs $3 and you receive your money back after you return the key. There is also shop and cafe where you can grab a quick bite, coffee, or water.
Next, you’ll put on all your zip lining gear, get put in a group, and get assigned two guides for the adventure. Our group consisted of about 10 people. After that, we were off!
Once you reach the first platform, the guide will go over operating and safety instructions. The more times you do it, the more natural it feels and easier it becomes. Most people began with both hands holding tight to the grip attached to their safety equipment. By the third or fourth platform, they were zip lining with no hands or taking selfies while on the move. I made a few videos myself.
Zip Ling is a great experience but for me, the guides from Rain Forest Adventures made the experience special. Not only were they knowledgeable on the island and the rain forest, but they were EXTREMELY fun and funny. I chatted with them as if we were old friends and laughed from platform to platform. They have a great rapport with each other and make even the most novice zip liner feel at ease. They are also very attentive to each persons needs or questions while zip lining.
At the end of the experience, you make your way back down to the entrance for a refreshing juice or to browse the gift shop. The experience overall was very fun and informative. It’s an activity that everyone can enjoy, from couples to families to thrill seekers alike.
